Mud, straw, and patience, rammed one layer a day. The walls drink the heat at noon and hand it back after dark.
Coffee on the east wall, long shadows, bread still warm from the oven. The desert is briefly generous.
The sun stands straight up and takes the courtyard. Everyone moves twelve metres and loses nothing.
The light goes sideways and gold. Daybeds face west; the kitchen lights the fire pit.
Eight rooms off the arcade. Thick walls, cotton canopy, a door you leave open to hear the fountain.
Rooms 1–8 · from 340 / nightTwo rooms stacked above the gate. The only windows that face all four directions; sunrise is unavoidable.
Rooms 9–10 · from 460 / nightOne room behind the water. Step from bed to pool in four paces; the coldest floor in the building.
Room 11 · from 590 / nightAt night the desert flips.
The walls give back the day's heat,
and the lanterns come out.
One kitchen, one fire pit, one long table under the arcade. Flatbread from the earth oven, vegetables from the wadi gardens, lamb on Fridays. Water is served cold and free; everything else is negotiable.
